Vote for the Winners in Our 2024 “20 Days in September” Contest—and Maybe Win Something for Yourself!

It’s gonna be tough to choose just 3!

Starting on September 1, many of you committed to an important challenge: trying to get out on the water at least 20 times during the 30 days of the month. This is a concept that dates back to 2014, and we opened it up to the public the next year–here’s the original post–which means that this is the 10th year! I managed a perfect 20 days this year, which made for a very enjoyable late summer.

As an added incentive, although you probably didn’t need one, the annual “20 Days in September” Photo Contest also kicked off at the beginning of the month. After poring over thousands of entries, our crack team of in-house judges has come up with 10 finalists–which was no small task.

Take a close look at the 10 photos below–listed alphabetically by the photographer’s last name or the first letter of the account–and then use the widget at the bottom to choose your three favorites. (The widget will list the images in random order, for maximum fairness.) The photographers are competing for some great prizes, including a Helios Fly Rod, a  PRO Waterproof Backpack 30L, and a Drift Hoodie.

We’ll also give 2 Orvis Wader Mudrooms: One to a randomly selected person who posts a photo of them picking up trash while fishing, and one to a randomly selected voter at the end of the contest.

Important Note: To be eligible to win the Mudroom, you MUST leave a comment about the photos in the comments section below. (That’s the only way we’ll know who you are, since the poll widget doesn’t collect data on voters.)

Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. on WEDNESDAY, October 9th, and we will announce the winners on Friday, October 11th.

So choose your three winners, hit the “vote” button, and then leave a comment below!

  1. Some great photos! I really like the one I selected… I can’t imagine having a Moose being that close while fishing! That was a great capture also!

    1. Craig, my moose story from 1976, quite a while ago. We were camping at Yellowstone Lake, and I had waded out maybe 10 feet in the evening trying to entice a trout. This nice, kind, quiet, gentlemanly moose (great rack) just laid down in the grass, about 20 feet directly behind me and seemed just to watch me fish. After a little while, two 8-9 year old boys from the campsite arrived and started annoying the moose. He got kind of riled up, pawing the ground with his head down. I told the boys that the moose was giving a sign that he was about to charge, and that the moose was many times bigger than they were, and that they didn’t want any part of an angry moose. They continued to annoy, the moose gave is warning, and then luckily, bounded away through a thicket in the opposite direction. Thank you, Mr. Moose!

Two weeks ago, we saw 5 moose along the Jenny Lake trail in Grand Teton National Park.

  2. What kind of fish is that in John Fallon’s photo? I don’t recognize it. Maybe white perch?
All the pictures are great. I’m a real fan of moose!

  3. It was awesome to see all the great “20 days of September” photos this year! So incredibly inspiring, seeing new species of fish, and places I’ve never visited. It was also great to be transported back to those familiar wild places, and fish too! Again great pics by all, happy Fall fishing, and can’t wait to see next year’s pics!!!
